"Charging for higher & tiered QoS is the Most Important Potential Strategy"

Investment Moats covered a panel discussion from the Telco 2.0 Executive Brainstorming conference held recently in London.

See "Optimising Mobile Broadband Economics" - here.

The session, "Mobile Broadband Network Economics - Invest in Business Models or Technology?"  (here) had an experts panel including representatives from Telco 2.0 Initiative, TeliaSonera, Value Partners, Nokia Siemens Networks and mBlox.

"Charging for providing higher and tiered Quality of Service (QoS) was a major topic of debate, and although this was ultimately voted as the most important potential current strategy, there were also strong disparate views offered by delegates"

A recent announcement from Skype shows us that this approach may become a reality soon. See "Skype: We Will Charge 3G Calls to Ensure QoS Stays High" - here.
